Frequently Asked Questions

What does the MLK pathway mean?

Eight grade students who score advanced in reading/language arts and math AND who do not fail any class (including related arts) are invited to attend ML King Magnet High School their freshman year.  Rose Park students who meet these academic requirements do not need to enter the lottery process, but do need to complete the paperwork issued by Ms. Wilson, guidance counselor.

How can I apply or enroll my child in Rose Park?

Since Rose Park is a magnet school, all students must complete the magnet school application <put link here>. Students applying before the lottery whose number gets called can then reply accepting the slot; students applying after the lottery will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.

How many students are zone & how many are magnet?

All students are magnet students and must go through the application process. We do have some students who walk to school, but they, too, have successfully completed the application process.

Where will my child go to high school after Rose Park?

In March 2007, the school board approved an automatic pathway for all 8th grade students who met the academic entrance qualifications to enter Martin Luther King, Junior Academic Magnet High School as freshmen. Students who do not meet the requirements for MLK will attend their zoned high school unless they make other arrangements.

Are there minimum academic requirements to apply to Rose Park?

No, while Rose Park Magnet does offer a strong academic program, our students are not restricted by TCAP scores.

What does it mean to be a “Math and Science” school?

Rose Park has state of the art science labs, use technology, and offer a hands-on, project based curriculum.
